ABOUT US

HealthyLeap Foods® is a forward-looking startup focused on developing nutritious products that are needed by infants. Combining unparalleled experience, comprehensive capabilities across food industries and research development functions, we provide products aimed at reducing micronutrient deficiencies, especially Vitamin A deficiency in children above the age of 6-month. We recognize that early-life nutrition has long-term consequences and may influence adult outcomes; hence our slogan “a jumpstart to a healthy living”. Our products provide early-life nutrition using locally grown raw materials.

HealthyLeap Foods® was formed in 2019 by two visionary graduates of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The startup has since built its reputation primarily as a research and development resource in the infant food industry.

In early 2018, HealthyLeap Foods® developed its first product Sweepolac, a complementary food made from carefully selected indigenous food raw materials, one of which is orange-flesh sweetpotato known for its high beta-carotene (provitamin A) content. The product is a ready-to-eat food, which needs only hot water to make it into a slurry to feed the child. Our product has already been tried in the pre-launch phase through consumer sensory at a children’s hospital and was very much accepted by mothers. It has also won an award as the 1st runner up of an Elevator Pitch Contest (EPC) organized in Ghana (which was sponsored by Sight and Life, Association of Ghana Industries, and McGill University) as a nutritious food to reduce malnutrition.

With help from the MasterCard Foundation, we have trained farmers who provide us with high quality orange flesh sweetpotatoes to produce Sweepolac. Our product is also FDA approved. With HealthyLeap foods, we do not only provide nutritious meals for babies but also train and improve the economic lives of our local farmers.
